This is the section where the curve moves most
Of everything on the SAT, Reading and Writing shows the widest disagreement between official conversion tables. At a raw score of 40, the eight tables put the lower bound anywhere from 470 to 540, a 70-point spread produced entirely by which test you sat.
That is the single strongest argument against any calculator that applies one generic curve. It is also why the test selector here is the first thing you touch.
Add both modules before converting
Your two module raw scores are added together and converted once. Converting each module separately and adding the scaled results is a genuine bug that ships elsewhere, and it penalises students who performed evenly across both modules.
Context for the number
The Class of 2025 mean was 521, with a standard deviation of 121. The readiness benchmark is 480, met by 64 percent of that cohort.

- Is this section still called Evidence-Based Reading and Writing?
- No. The digital SAT calls it Reading and Writing. The older label still appears in College Board's annual reports, and in a lot of test-prep content that has not been updated, but it refers to the same section.
- What is the Reading and Writing benchmark?
- 480. It predicts a 75 percent likelihood of a C or higher in a related first semester, credit-bearing college course. In the Class of 2025, 64 percent of test takers met it.
